TML 11 - BEFC 4 : Lions 2

On a run up the Division 2 table it was the return match against the Lions. Lions have one of the lowest goals against in the division as well as earning the most draws of any team.
Having drawn last time BEFC were in the mood to break the curse!
Earlier in the season post Christmas there had been a slight difficulty in getting a full squad, but now in a 100% reverse members we having to step aside with an already 16 player squad ready to go. With new boy Kaz 'Kazam' Fushimi turning up for his first game Keith honourably developed an ankle injury and Ben was onhand to cover as replacement goal keeper thus restoring balance to the team.

BEFC had a strong start controlling the game and coming close a few times on goal. However the defence began to be troubled by Lions attackers coming through the middle of the park and then against the run of play a Lions midfielder who had ran out onto the wing, and isolated launched a tight angled shot into the far right corner of the goal.
It wasn't the best start for the new goalkeeper, although it was a particularly impressive (read flukey) strike from the Lions.

This riled up BEFC who felt goals would come and inevitabely they did, surprising from corners from which we rarely do anything remarkable and from the bullet headers of James Pounder. BEFC were soon ahead and looking for more goals.

At half time everyone was pretty confident of the win but all warned that the only place a goal was likely to come from Lions was if they brought it straight down the middle and one of their big forwards was able to bundle through..... yup.... it happened.
While still playing well BEFC began to struggle in the middle of the pitch infront of the center backs and Lions began to out muscle in that area. After some sustained pressure and attacks the ball got bundled through with some deflection but onto the path of their striker. With the keeper charging off his line the Lions striker quickly half volleyed the ball back into the net.

Now at 3-2 BEFC again kept the confidence that more goals would come and inevitabley they did as Lions ran out of steam, finishing the game at 4 - 2.

Also  the day before BEFC had played some of the Lions representing Saudi Arabia in the Embassy Cup Futsal competition where they dished out an 8-0 spanking. While not quite as impressive as the day before it was a good double over Lions.
