Adecco MVP BEFC vs Sala - Alo Säkk

  • Adecco BEFC Most Valuable Player vs Sala - Alo Säkk

Matches against Sala are always big games and intense. This match was no different though not helped by a few unfortunate dropouts and some actual no-shows leaving BEFC with a valiant 11 players to take on the perenial Sala FC nemesis.

BEFC started brightly continuing their good form from the previous victory over SUNS, working on pushing the match tempo and striking the first blow. This was quickly countered which to BEFC was a rather questionable penalty decision, which was questioned and still not sure of the answer as from BEFC's perspective no one actually touched the player who decided to jump and fall over by his own volition to avoid a tackle. Nevertheless this didn't distract BEFC from the task at hand and they went about putting themselves back into the lead. Gaining further advantage in the second half, BEFC's midfield were doing a great job of shutting down Sala's star player but Sala then started to find other channels to threaten. And this became the problem, for without any substitions BEFC began to tire, where Sala could up the pace. With a crunching ankle injury to Oomichi, BEFC had to survive 10 minutes of 10 men until he was able to get back onto the pitch playing through the challenge. Then Yoshida also went down in a clash in the box, grit from the artificial grass finding it's way into his eye, leaving BEFC another period of 10 players until Yoshida could also get back onto the pitch. Meanwhile Alonso was fully cramping for the last 20 minutes with no chance of relief, followed by Palmer in the last minutes whose calves had started to seize up.

Despite the valiant efforts of BEFC they could not stay on top of a resurgent and fresh Sala who cruelly found a spectacular equaliser from the head of their star player in the closing minutes. Both teams rallied thinking they could each win the game, with both sides going close. A shout of frustration went up from both sides at the final whistle simply because both team thought they could win it and hoped for the chance. Overall it was a strong performance by BEFC let down by lack of a full squad and hit by unfortunate injuries to multiple players through-out the contest.

When it came to MVP nominations it was a tough call again. Mainly because everyone played their role excellently and put in a massive effort, playing through exhaustion, cramp and injury to walk away with a valuable point. However it was a day where BEFC player of the year showed his form in all aspects of the field, as well as being on the end of quite a few calls where being fouled didn't seem to apply to him - he kept his cool and answered with goals. With a fine hat trick and all round strong performance Alo Säkk is the well deserved Adecco Most Valuable Player versus Sala.
