Thanks to everyone who attended the party, and to Rich S and Julia who allowed BEFC to hold the party at their fine abode at the Embassy.
BEFC guests arrived to all receive a Santa Hat, balloon and opening glass of sparkly wine. Also we started a bit of a party game as guests had to guess the name or a famous character or person stuck onto the front of their hat. While all the remaining guests arrived, revellers chatted, mingled, played balloon football and made use of the freebar, hosted by SanTaka.

Soon it was time to eat from a fine platter supplied by Kojimachi Cafe, as well as a special round of roast potatoes cooked up in the kitchen by Ben and Rich (can't have Christmas without roasties). Despite all of it being delicious (especially the pork) the biggest cheer went up for the dessert cheeseboard and baguette, curated by Rich O.

With everyone nicely fuelled and lubricated, everyone reclined to the lounge for a seasonal review from our manager Mr Keith Crowley who presented the recently new Captain Ben the Clubman of the year award for his work organsing the club and this very website. This then flowed into the Manager and Captain's awards, Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards.....

Golden Boot
The 2014 Golden Boot went to James Pounder with a total of 5 goals. 2nd place was Captain Ben whose threat to force a tie-breaker by scoring in the last game was thwarted by having to defend for most of it. Actually the first would have been tied with Ryota, who sadly left to play in Division 1 in Swiss Kickers, where he is probably top scorer.

Manager's Awards

  • The Spot Drinking Award - Richard Sciver's unassailable talent for making beer disappear, and of course for all his great help in supporting BEFC.
  • The Norman Hunter Bite Your Leg Award for Ferocious Tackling - Jorge Marenco's impact on BEFC is not just marked by acquisition of Yellow Cards (and Spanish talent), but also putting fear into the hearts of the opposition with relentless and uncomprising challenges.
  • The Roadrunner Award for Tireless Running - Shin Ishihara tireless bossing of midfield makes everyone feel much happier when they see his name on the match list.

Captain's Awards

  • The Intergalatic Award - During futsal some players put the ball over the fence into the jungle, some have put it out of the compound, but some have put it into the gods! This award was hotly contested but went to Aurelle (Ariel) Docquin for giving the BEFC ball the longest running houdini act.
  • The Queensberry Gentleman's Award - BEFC uphold the principles of sportmanship and gentlemanly ettiquette. While the pitch can be a place of language your mother would disapprove of, and disagreements best left for behind the school bikesheds, Cael Husband shines as an example of a true and proper chap, never losing his cool and delivering rebuttles wrapped in the smoothest tweed! How could any referee consider cautioning, let alone booking such a gentleman.
  • The Stanley Kubrick Award - While the players of BEFC embark on death defying heroics and mindbending football adventures, it is a diservice if these endeavours are not exposed to the world at large. Thankfully James Cane and Megumi 'The Harbinger' Negishi are at hand to record and burn them into the annals of football history. On top of that the Stanley Kubrick Award highlights the award winning short film 'Don't Cross the Lines, man' starring James Cane vs Syu Syu Aoyama.
  • The BEFC Allstar Award - Jorge Marenco and Check Chin Yong. While some members of BEFC get cool titles like Captain and Manager it also means they have a lot to do. Thankfully other club members make the club run smoothly by helping out with the organisation and bringing in new players. The Allstar award recognises particular members who have helped out immensely behind the scenes in helping the club grow.

With the Manager and Captain Awards over, it was Futsal Player of the Year and TML Player of the Year award time! Earlier in the month an email went out to all members of BEFC to nominate their top 3 players for both TML and Futsal. The criteria was entirely what it meant to them. With all the nominations in they were calculated with a 1st equal to 1, 2nd equal to .5 and 3rd equal to .25.

Futsal Player of the Year

Originally Wednesday night futsal was used as training for the Elevens team as practice. However slowly it evolved into its own activity, with a strong mix of futsal only players and some of the Elevens team. What was for sure, was that Futsal wasn't about Elevens training anymore, and this year BEFC recognised it with its own award.

  • Futsal Player of the Year - David Mullholland
  • Runner Up - Steve Good
  • Runner Up - Keith Crowley

BEFC Player of the Year Award

The original BEFC award for the TML Elevens team. The nominations were widespread, and the final difference came down to .25 of a point.

  • BEFC Player of the Year - Ewan Walton
  • Runner Up - Ben Palmer
  • Runner Up - Jorge Marenco

Congratulations to Ewan who came second last year, and was amused by the surprise of his wife, that he was in fact.... actually pretty damn good at football!

With all the awards over, it was time for the BEFC Christmas Quiz, of which foundations were firmly put in place by Rob and Tim last year. This year took things to a new level, especially with the Christmas Beards round, where teams had to guess the football player by donning a finely crafted print of their beard, and the retro music video round, where we all found out that Clint Dempsey is a rapper. In a frantic final buzzer round, Dr. Evil's team surged forward to win the competition after the rest of the teams all froze themselves out by wrongly guessing who was described as the Beckham of Japan.

Finally we ended the night with the Christmas Jumper competition, hands down won by party host and upstanding paragon of Christmas Fashion - Richard Sciver.
