Adecco MVP BEFC Lions vs Vagabonds FC - Goran Galic

  • Adecco BEFC Most Valuable Player vsBFC Vagabonds - Goran Galic

Lions closed their first calendar year as a team by playing their second leg game against Vagabonds. Frustrated from what they felt was an unlucky defeat during their first game. This motivated a relatively untested new lineup of Lions players to aim for a victory, but unfortunately luck would not have it this way. A bittersweet tie that felt undeserved again has left Lions with a desire for revenge next time they face Vagabonds. Nominations for MVP for this game led to a clear player, someone that showed up and made some key saves, as well as displaying some confident gameplay with his feet (as he has often shown when playing up front). Goran Galic earned his first MVP honour by pushing the team forward and debuting as a strong goalkeeper despite claiming "not to be very good". A few one-on-ones and several nice passes earned him the distinction from his teammates.

Lions played some beautiful football at times during the game, often starting from the back with MVP Goran setting midfielders Rich and Mark for some easy distribution to the wings with second timer Tetsu using his speed and always reliable VC Kaz doing run ins. At the summit of the Lions' best play was Marenco's exquisite backheel goal, formed from a series of passes started from the back and by battling it through to a soft cross, Marenco then used a CR7 like move to backheel past the Vagabonds goalkeeper. At this point it seemed as if Lions had the game in the bag, but a lack of subsittutes and some unfortunate injuries had the Lions struggle for form and concede an unlucky last minute goal.

Despite the tie, it was evident that none of the goals were on the GK, as such our Adecco MVP Goran opens the Lions' first recognition of 2018 with his steady hands and a Neuer like play with the feet. Also recongnised were Marenco with his beautiful goal and often threatening presence and Charles, who was always available and up for a fight even when playing 1v2 up front.

An unlucky draw for the Lions, with both weather, numbers and other factors against them, but a game that was considered by several of the players as one that showed how much the team has progressed in 5 months.
