Adecco MOM BEFC vs King George - Rafael Moyano

  • Adecco BEFC Man of the Match Award - Rafael Moyano

Victory over King George was a very strong, followed by a somewhat wobbly performace from BEFC. One player who remained solid, consistent and inspiring confidence on the pitch was Rafael Moyano. Back in action for BEFC, Rafa took over the center back role as Cael Husband honorably took one for the team standing in for BEFC's glut of absent goalkeepers. Reading the play with his mystic football telepathy Rafa was in the right place, time after time to cut out King George attacks and then move the ball back into play constructively and calmly. As well as a header winning force in defence, he converted that to become a corner kick menace, regulary bossing defenders in the jump to the ball and causing plenty of havoc. So much effective pressure that busting open the space then winning and holding a resulting second ball scramble vs three defenders, enabled the ball to pop loose into the middle of the penalty box to allow an easy tap in for Ben Palmer. Despite Rafa not wanting any credit for what he perceived a pathetic goal, proponents of the uglier chaos based game (me) recognised getting to that ball, pulling in and holding off three defenders, then winning the tussle is what allowed Palmer to be unmarked in the first place. Despite it not being pretty, it is impressive as many others would a. Not have got to it through 3 people, b. been pushed/hacked off the ball long before getting it out of the tussle.

The nominations for MOM noted some choice candidates, but for his all round solid and intelligent game Rafael Moyano is the Adecco BEFC Man of the Match versus King George FC.
Less said about that header the better.....

Also thanks to Cael for doing goalie duties, and thanks to everyone who game to the post game talk. We'll try and implement what we discussed in the warm up time of the next match.
