Adecco MOM BEFC vs Albion Old Boys - Daniel Mendelssohn

  • Adecco BEFC Man of the Match Award - Daniel Mendelssohn
  • BEFC vs Albion Old Boys - Football Friendly

On a fantastic sunny morning BEFC's other team, who we can call Embassy FC, BEFC Wednesday, BEFC Stanley, BEFC Athletic or BEFC Albion came together to play a Friendly versus TML stalwarts Albion Old Boys at St. Mary's in Futako-Tamagawa. A team comprised of nearly everyone who didn't play the day before banded together to take on a well organised Albion on their home turf.
The first half went as predicted, with BEFC needing time to get to know each other and struggling a little against an Albion team who know each other very very well. Albion going ahead with a well tuned free-kick to the back post as Rodney Cramblit arrived in front of the defence to head home. BEFC kept their spirits up and got back into the game, improving more as the match went on, but not enough to be caught out just lacking in intensity and quickness to second balls, as on a clearance from a corner, Albion managed to just chip goalie Ben Palmer whose touch could only slow the strike's way into the net. BEFC 0 -2 down needed a half time chat.

And chat they did. As said before the game and in the build up this would all be about communication, and after various discussions between players and units, BEFC came back to take control of the game, spending most of the second half in Albion's half trying to break through their defence. And eventually it came with great tenacity from Daniel Mendelssohn whose shot/cross from the right wing deservedly found it's way into the net. Now under pressure and tiring Albion OB shut down defensively looking to capitalise on the swift counter and BEFC smelt the blood in the water!

Albion now mostly pinned in their own half BEFC sought the equaliser with Donald Freeke going through on goal, side stepping the keeper and then being blatantly shoved horizontally off the ball by him. To the surprise of everyone, no foul was called, no penalty nor card for a totally obvious and blatant foul to prevent the goal as an Albion defender managed to also slide the trickling ball off the line. Then at the other end of the pitch Ben Palmer managed to stuff the Albion striker through on goal in a one on one to keep BEFC in the hunt for the equaliser.

In the dying seconds of the match BEFC caught out the Albion defense with high pressure and Daniel Mendelssohn went through on goal as the ball was bundled back towards the Old Boys keeper. Getting there first Mendelssohn got enough on the ball to force it through and over the line to make a well deserved 2 - 2. In the last few minutes neither side went too all out for glory and as the whistle blew it was a good result and game of football.

It was a game of 2 halves for BEFC. The first half didn't really count as the team got to know each other, and the second half showed how they could play once they got the mojo flowing!
However over the entire game one player was a constant threat and menace, he also got both goals and stand out performer Daniel Mendelssohn is the Adecco BEFC Man of the Match versus Albion Old Boys!
